Congress returns from its President’s Day recess. The House and Senate convene today at noon and 3 p.m., respectively.

A fix for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and the FY 2018 omnibus spending bill are the top two most urgent items on Congress’s to-do list. The DACA program is set to expire on March 5, and the next government-funding deadline is March 23.

Here’s what’s in store for the week:

House

Bills Under Consideration. Lawmakers will take up the following financial services bills on Tuesday:

  1. H.R. 5078 – The TRID Improvement Act of 2018 would modify certain requirements related to mortgage disclosures. The bill would, among other things, require lenders to provide consumers with information on discounted rates for title insurance.
  2. H.R. 4296 – the bill would prohibit a federal banking agency from establishing an operational-risk capital requirement for banking organizations unless the requirement is based on current risks; is determined under a forward-looking assessment of potential losses; and allows certain adjustments.

SEC and Fed Hearings. This Tuesday, the House Financial Services Committee will hold a subcommittee hearing on the SEC’s enforcement division and a full committee hearing with Fed Chair Jay Powell to receive his semiannual monetary policy report.

CVS-Aetna Merger. The House Judiciary Committee has scheduled a subcommittee hearing on Tuesday to review the proposed merger between CVS and Aetna.

Senate

Nominations. The chamber will take up a series of judicial nominations this week. The nomination of Elizabeth Branch to be the U.S. Circuit Judge for the 11th Circuit will get a cloture vote today at 5:30 p.m. Also up this week is the nomination of Russell Vought to be the deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget.

Banking Hearing. The committee will hold a hearing with Fed Chair Jay Powell on Wednesday to discuss his first semiannual monetary policy report to Congress.

Infrastructure Hearing. The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will hold a Thursday hearing on the administration’s $1.5 trillion infrastructure plan. For more events happening this week, check out the activities section below.
